Time To Choose

 December 11, 2024,

For my friends and family, what do I choose to write about today? The perplexities of the Middle East situation since Bashar al-Assad was forced to flee to Putin? No, the feelings are running way ahead of the facts so, that letter will wait for more clarity.

December 11, 2024, For my friends and family, what do I choose to write about today? The perplexities of the Middle East situation since Bashar al-Assad was forced to flee to Putin? No, the feelings are running way ahead of the facts so, that letter will wait for more clarity. Today's letter will be about Min's work in the garden. Why? Because it's a story of love, life, hard work and good food! If that's not an easier read than a letter filled with death, destruction and horror, my mind has truly turned to mush. In the last week or two, Min has been cutting up fallen bamboo to make posts and rails. Not only was our old bamboo fencing disintegrating, Rusty was finding new and ingenious ways to get through the fencing to the geese. His last successful incursion included a leap down into the newly planted sweet potatoes from a four-foot-high wall. Now that min has replaced the old and put in some new fencing to foil Rusty (for a while) she has started preparing the soil for the Pichay seedlings. I suppose that now would be the time to point out that our 'nursery' is also one of the best growing areas in our garden. So, along with seeds germinating, there are: Sweet potatoes growing Green onions In one corner, a four-foot-high and growing lemon tree In another corner, a banana plant And of course, various native greens Our nursery is now more than a nursery, but old names and habits die hard. All that really matters is that because of Min's hard work and incredible skill set, many people will eat better and have a better life. She is one fine lady! Brian
