An Old Man's Pain

“If you are depressed you are living in the past if you are anxious you are living in the future, if you are at peace, you are living in the present.”

 Lao Tzu

Aching creaking joints are a bother. A bother that a combination of meds, tears, stoicism and cursing the Gods can deal with. The pain that cuts to the soul comes from memories.

Regrets can be transformed

Painful  memories come in all shapes and sizes. Some are quick and sharp. Others are slow melancholic bum you out for hours pain.

The ones that hurt the most are memories of  the 'what if' kind.

Regrets are a bitch.

Regrets live in your heart.

They peak out through your eyes and pick away at your peace of mind.

There is a cure.

Live in the present.

Accept that what is done is really done.

Learn the lesson that needs learning.

Then allow your Regret to sink deeply into your being as it transforms from a memory of pain into a Wisdom and Compassion lesson on how to properly live in the here and now.

There's one warning that comes with this advice: this is worthwhile but hard to master. You might want to start with the small stuff. If you jump into the deep end you could drown.
