Wisdom From An Old Communist
If you live among wolves you have to act like a wolf.
Caught Betwixt And Between
Nikita was a Russian politician who knew how to survive. He survived World War Two. Stalin's paranoia left him unscathed. He prospered during the Cold War. He was no ones fool.
Burning Question
Which brings this epistle to the burning question: How do wolves act?
Wolves are communal. Which means they live within a structured society. A Society with customs, laws, rewards and punishments.
Wolves are curious, loyal, dependable, cunning and stable. Even their geniuses are very stable. Yes they have their in-house fights for dominance. But they are rarely lethal.
Wolves live within the space that our Mother created for them. At least they do if humans don't move into their territory and try to wipe them out.
Application
What did Khrushchev's advice have to offer M'Lady and myself when we relocated to the Philippines?
It offered us the rock steady wisdom that we weren't moving in with wolves but with humans. Humans are a might more deadly and often a whole bunch less honest. So a certain amount of cunning was necessary.
To our friends and the honorable people we worked with we owed loyalty, honesty, stability and dependability.
But to the less than honorable, cunning and awareness was the order of the day.
Summation
Things have worked out well for us. We have few friends but they are true friends. We live as peacefully as we can.
After twenty years we live within an oasis of peace in a country torn asunder by a low intensity war.
All in all, not too bad even if I do say so myself.
