Teachers are not always human. in the video I talk about the life lesson that our bamboo house is teaching me. We built it about 20 years ago and it has done us handsome service.

We have had an understudy of Pavarotti sing opera in it. The mayor of Valentia lay down on our very comfortable bamboo floor. There were countless breakfasts sitting in our backroom with the door open, you'll see the door in the pictures, talking about what we wanted to do here or there in the garden.

But the time came when decisions had to be made. The house was in need of a new roof which would require taking out a loan or a mortgage. There were sections of the bamboo structure that needed replacing. And we had moved into our cement house. The choice was a simple one: do we bankrupt ourselves keeping the bamboo house in pristine condition because it's so pretty or do we let it return to Mother Earth. That sounds pretentious but realize that our house is 99% recyclable. It's almost entirely made out of bamboo.

We decided that the house had lived through all the things that this house should live through. It had become a home, had entertained guests, had given us many many glorious days and nights and it was time to let it to return to mother earth.

So, for the last year and a half? two years I have been watching the house return. This has helped me to come to terms with my own going home.

It's explained a little better in the video. With the video I've included some really good images of the house. Correction, I wasn't a very good photographer back in the day but they do show the house off rather nicely. The lead in image was taken by M'Lady. I'm standing on our private balcony. Cooper is lying beside me. We're  enjoying the day and the view.

I hope you enjoy the video and perhaps you'll also learn something from the bamboo house?
