To borrow a sentiment: there's not much as satisfying as messing about in a garden
The Life And Times Of Brian Waddington
In the garden one learns patience |
When we built our 'keep the karaoke noise out' house we had excellent water pressure. However in the last few years as the population has increased the water pressure has decreased. Our reality is that the water system is dependent upon the outflow of a stream rather than a built5 up supply behind a dam. So, we have decided that it's time to put in more holding tanks. Not sure how many but at least two. Pictures will follow the installation.
The summer drought/ heat wave has hit with a vengeance. Even Rusty (our two year old Doberman) feels the effects. Playing fetch and running for the heck of it is reserved for the early morning, cool of the evening time. The rest of the day he lies on the cool cement floor or meanders on the paths.
The good side of the dry season is that the veggies are doing exceptionally well. We munch on green beans, cherry tomatoes, green onions, lettuce, okra, papaya and occasionally squash.
We are also having promising results with the vertical gardening. There are still questions about the density of plants but the planting in the first three containers is doing well.
There is a new dedicated composting area. Lots of brown and green just lying around, near water and room enough for five decent sized compost piles. The compost combined with watering from the fish ponds should help with the density of the vertical gardening.
Well that's about it for now.
