 It's the Norm So It Must Be Right

Why do we always show North as up?

 Mind Game ~ Earth isn't attached to a floor or a roof so why do we think North is up?  

It makes just as much sense for South to be the default 'up'.

 Allow me to suggest a reason? The map makers came from the colonizing North and as the self-proclaimed Superior must always be on top...
