The Illusion / Delusion of Safety By Being 'Other'

I appreciate the thought, but the reality is not so good.

I appreciate the thought, but the reality is not so good. Back in the day we had S.E. Asia's longest wi-fi connection. The challenge of getting us connected was what intrigued a (then) young computer geek enough to get us up and running. It was then that I took a course on computer security from, if memory serves, Harvard. The very first lesson was on how hard it is to hide your location. Unless you were capable of building your own security walls, they were going to find you if you were using a land line. We, on the other hand were well hidden by being wireless. They could get no closer than 500 miles. But that was back then. We stayed wireless for a little more than 15 years. By the time we went land line the tracing technology had seriously improved. What had been a 500-mile buffer had slowly but surely reduced to about a five-mile buffer. Now that we are wired in, the buffer zone has once again shrunk. So, to all my readers who think that by not disclosing your location you are safer; best think again. Just a thought. Brian
