Geese, Dogs, Lots Of Stone Walls, Lower Pond Video
I never get lonely, though I do miss M'lady, because I'm never alone. Nine geese, two dogs, wild birds, grasshoppers, butterflies, dragonflies, and an endless assortment of rats, cats, snakes and creepy crawlers.
In the 20+ years we have been here we have tried a lot of variations on the basic theme. We have a need to feed not only our bellies but our hearts, souls and intellects as well.
We started off with a vegetable patch. As we managed to secure more land, we expanded into what can honestly be called 'hobby farming'. 1,000+ pineapples. At various times chickens, rabbits, turkeys, geese and for the last 10 or so years tilapia.
We did enjoy the fresh eggs and good meat of the chickens and rabbits. We didn't enjoy the rats and snakes that having enclosed rabbits and chickens brought into our yard.
The turkeys were not such a good idea because they were mean and vicious.
Geese and dogs on the other hand are more or less friendly and more than a match for snakes and rats. We've kept them.
For now, the intellectual challenge is trying to create a food chain for 2 families that can thrive in our rapidly changing environment. This challenge has the added advantage of not going away anytime soon.
All in all, we have a good life.
Rusty says, everybody play nice please and thank you. |
