Freedoms Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose (Me and Bobby Magee)
I've had freedom and I've had obligation, duty and responsibility. I prefer the latter.
The little I know about South Korean culture does not paint a very rosy picture. There are societal fences around pretty much everything. And most, if not all of the fences, were planned and built by men for men.
Sadly for the men, the pan world culture has found its way into South Korea. Autonomy and Freedom are becoming more desirable than a cohesive society built upon honor and responsibility. There are multiple movements in South Korea that are attempting to alter society. Here is but one example.
4B
"The 4B movement in South Korea is more than just a series of rejections; it’s a call for societal transformation. Advocating for a woman’s right to live independently and make choices free from societal coercion, it reflects a generation of South Korean women who boldly demand respect for their autonomy and challenge the status quo. The movement seeks to combat South Korea’s patriarchal and misogynistic culture, which has historically oppressed women through traditional gender roles related to relationships and motherhood12. Like any social movement, 4B has its internal rifts and divisions, including questions about friendships with men, dating preferences, and the role of lesbianism in shaping a world without men3. 🌟"(Copilot)

My Credentials
I was born in Vancouver Canada at St. Paul's Hospital in 1951. Father worked in a lumber mill. Mother stayed home and looked after the family. Later for reasons I won't go into my mother kicked my father out. I was 17, my brother was 20 and my sisters were just becoming teenagers. My mother found work and life went on.
But let there be no misunderstanding our family was most assuredly not the family that a young woman of Scottish descent getting married in 1948 in Vancouver Canada fondly dreamed of.
So, I understand from firsthand experience that a woman's role in society will out of necessity, desire, or greed change over time. which means that I have no 'bottom line' problem with 4B or any other social movement unless it gets violent.
But I Do Have A Question
If the primary goal of the movement is increased freedom and personal autonomy with the resultant major decrease of the dominant culture's rules and expectations which place a premium on obedience, and cohesiveness what will replace the entity now known as South Korea, if the movement is adopted by a tipping point of citizens?
Conclusion
I have no crystal ball. But as the song says "Freedom is just another word for nothing to lose". So, by all means gain your freedom but I prefer my life of 30+ years with M'lady. Duties, obligations, responsibly, respect and honor all have their place in our life together. If I was to lose M'Lady I would have lost everything that makes life worth living. In my books that is not freedom it's just lonely.
Never ending equality |
So, keep your freedom. I prefer living with my equal.
