For Nigh On A Decade I Whetted My Photography Skills
December 19, 2024,
Family and friends, Perhaps this is why M'Lady often compares me to a dog with a bone?
The gentlest of breezes and this shot floats away |
Back in the day I would set up my camera, grab my six-foot-long walking stick to help steady me as I clicked away, and head out to the garden for an hour or two of exploration. Thankfully my camera was digital so the cost of film and processing didn't enter the equation.
When I came back inside, there would be another hour or two of sorting and finally the joy of what many refer to as photoshopping.
The icing on the cake was the online photography club that I found and joined. There were some seriously talented people in the club and many of them took the time to, for lack of a better word, mentor me.
I'd post multiple shots most days, and they graciously corrected my efforts. When I told my brother about the group, his first response was, 'what gives them the right to critique your efforts'? I sent him an image from one of my mentors, and he instantly agreed that they had the right to critique.
I must have been a member for three(?) years. But the time comes when the fledgeling must leave the nest. I had developed my own style and what I needed was to go down my path. I'm sure that it was the right choice.
Still and all, everything comes to an end in our dualistic world. Cameras and bodies both break down. Now, it is blogging and sharing the love that occupies my time. Though, as you can see from this post, my older passions are still useful.
