I Really Enjoy Jigsaw Puzzles

Hi, everybody needs a hobby. At my time of life something that is sedentary, beautiful, challenging, meditative, enlightening and free is high on my list of enjoyable pastimes. Which brings me to my hobby, Jigsaw Puzzles.

In particular, Microsoft Classic. Truth in advertising... the game is free and as much as I heartily endorse it, I am getting no handshake from Microsoft. Fact is that my next computer will most likely be an I Mac.

But back to the puzzles:

  • Sedentary is pretty much my life. Old age has worked its wonders on my body, and I'm a lot more likely to stumble and mumble around our garden than I am to jog around it.
  • Microsoft has a wide variety of puzzles and many, including the one I'm working on now, are truly beautiful.
  • this puzzle has only @600 pieces, but the intricate designs and colours are incredibly challenging.
  • Doing a challenging puzzle allows me to lose myself for hours. It's mesmerizing. Six hundred pieces, one piece at a time, it is absolutely a meditation.
  • I also get the pleasure of looking things up on the web about the puzzle I'm working on. It's like reading Kant, Austen, Jung or any of the great poets from past ages. I get to use the world's largest library to explore the hidden depths of what I'm enjoying.
  • Being a pensioner 'free' is definitely a bonus.
All in all, I find jigsaw puzzles a fascinating way to learn about the world I sort of live in.
