Live In A City? I Think Not

 January 8, 2025,

Hi, When I was a teenager, I'd have the same debate time and again with my mother. I didn't need to go to university because I wanted to live in the mountains. She'd usually put up with me for a while, but when she tired of the same old same old, she'd simply ask me how I'd support myself. I'd come up with a fantasy that she'd shoot down and that would be that.

I'm 73 now, and I did indeed go to university. I got about halfway through a Master’s degree. And, yes! For the last give or take twenty-five years I do live in the mountains.

Lately I've been wondering what it would be like to live in a city. For myself, hellish comes to mind. M'lady and I live in a 2,000sqm garden/temple which affords us privacy, ponds, geese, beauty, food, flowers, a touch of the wild and stone paths to walk on. With the added bonus of not being able to see our neighbours. At least not our human neighbours.

You can keep the city. We'll keep our little bit of heaven.
