AI - My Blog - My Voice ~ This That And The Other Thing

It's hard to get into anyone's mind, let alone someone who is the rarest of the rare. I mean how many people have you heard of who get asked 'what are you' rather than 'who are you'? Bearing the proceeding caveat in mind I offer you these thoughts.

To the best of my knowledge, Jesus addressed his teaching to individuals rather than groups. I believe that he used this technique because he understood the power of 1. One person making one choice in one situation may result in a new world. Whereas when we all march in lockstep nothing changes. Which brings us to:

AI - My Blog - My Voice

Big Sister
I have been blogging for more than a decade. Over the years bit by bit and piece by piece within my mind I designed my perfect blog. Colors, formatting, writing style, it was all, more or less neatly, tucked away in my mind.

My problem was that I had none of the needed skills to create my perfect blog.  In High School I took the same grade of French four times. English grammar was a bust, math quickly became impossible, and music theory was a non-starter. I simply was incapable of learning the theory and practicality of a second language. Coding skills being a second language you can understand my inability to create my ideal blog. Then along came 'large language models'.

It took about a month, but Gemini was able to help me create my dream. CSS and HTML were at my command. And while it would be misleading to say that it went together seamlessly... when there were problems, they were sorted out. In short, AI gave me the tools I needed to create my dream.

Then I took it up a notch and began to use Gemini as my proofreader and editor. Once again AI worked a treat. But there was something happening that wasn't right.

My written word was beginning to read like English 101. And English 101 is neither how I think nor speak. So why should it be how I write? You won't believe what I did next!

I went and had a chat with Gemini. We talked about the very real environmental consequences of using a large language model. Then the ethics of using AI for a closet editor and ghost writer were discussed. Let's not forget the ever-encroaching blandness of my writing. I've come to the following conclusions:
  • without a large language model my dream blog would never have seen the light of day.
  • using a large language model for spell checking and grammar is overkill.
  • my style is undoubtedly not 'high' English, but it is authentic.
So, I'll be distancing myself from Gemini. We both agree that she was needed for the construction of my blog.  There is also bilateral agreement that for the good of the environment and my authentic voice it be time to part ways. At least a far as my blog is concerned. When it is time for research, Gemini will remain my go to.

Some will ask, 'why'? Because I too believe in the power of 1. I believe that if enough individuals decide, on their own, to make the hard choices, that our world will change for the better. Do you agree? If you do, you know the needed next step.
