Do You Recognize The Feminine Divine?
The Book |
From all that I have read in the Christian Bible and many biblical commentaries, I have come to the conclusion that if it was not specifically stated that Jesus was the son of Mary, I'd think that he, was a she. And I would also have the same thought if I were to read the story of Buddha without specifically being told that he was a he.
Alright, now that your knee has quit jerking in reaction to my 'woke' statement, read the following list and decide for yourself which characteristics are usually associated with women and which with men.
- a good communicator
- someone who is not afraid to cry
- a warrior
- a killer
- a nurse
- a person of great tenderness
- someone with incredible endurance and staying power.
- a servant
- a teacher
- a person with the willingness and the capacity to forgive
- a gentle soul
- Someone with the capacity to both love and be strict
Roman Catholicism recognizes the Feminine Divine and has given Mary the title 'Queen of Heaven and Earth'. In part this was done as an answer to the people who felt the need to pray to a woman, a mother, the ruler of the home. The people didn't need a warrior G-d. They needed a loving G-d whose burden was light and whose yoke was easy.
This they found in Jesus and later after his death and resurrection they recognized in Mary his mother the same powerful qualities and began to pray to Mary as one would talk to the mother of a respected and powerful person; when in need of the powerful person's help. In other words, they transferred their cultural expectations onto the teachings of the Holy church. Mexico, France and the Philippines come to mind as places where the people have recognized the power of the Feminine Divine.
I do believe that it is time to follow the master's example and change our everyday paradigm from Warrior Cult to the paradigm of Love expressed by living in justice, mercy and humility with Creation.
