The Teachings Were Outlawed The Warp And Weft Remained To Be Rediscovered
The Eternal Warp And Weft |
To say that I can’t count the number of times I have started this book would be a 'classic' British understatement. For the last month or two, I thought that I had finally found my voice. I hadn’t.
Today was the day to start—not afresh, but to certainly do some serious rethinking and rewriting. That’s what this post is all about.
The Intent
It’s a simple plan: create a story that highlights the wisdom found within the Old Ways—in this case, the Old Ways of Mexico and the Philippines.
The History
Spain colonized Mexico and the Philippines at nearly the same time, in the mid-1500s. But while Mexico was colonized for its resources, the Philippines were seen as a power base (much in the same way America now views the country). Though the reasons differed, the weapons were the same: the Cross and the Sword.
Indigenous Religion: Banned But Not Overthrown
As much as Spain tried to destroy the identity and faith of the people with Cross and Sword, all they could do was drive it underground. This has resulted in what many refer to as 'folk religion'.
When I was a village pastor in a Native community on Canada’s west coast, I was slowly and carefully initiated into their authentic Christianity. I have not been given permission to share those teachings, so believe me or not, as you choose.
How This Book Is Envisioned
I hope to connect—via the web—with people in the Philippines and Mexico who remember the Old Ways. If I can, and if they allow me, I will share their teachings.
By sharing these teachings, I hope to inspire enough people to try a different path—one of balance, justice, mercy, and humility.
All I know for sure is this: if we continue to worship at the Altar of Greed and Aggression, we—and all who inhabit this beautiful planet—are doomed.
