An Old Man's Wisdom: Perseverance Works

Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.

Yesterday I posted a different version of this image. I kept going back and every time I did aggravation intensified. The colours didn't work. The main thing wasn't the main thing. 16x9 was just plain ugly.

This morning was back to work time.

A different crop. The red stripe that grabs the eye. Suddenly it works! Madame Curie was right. Perseverance pays off.

Pays off in photography specifically and in life generally.

Admittedly there are times to cut and run.

Knowing when to cut and run or to dig in and persevere requires Wisdom. Wisdom is created through experience. To gain experience means you try, screw it up and start again avoiding the mistakes you just made.

To put it bluntly: accept that you're going to get it wrong. Probably more than once. Nevertheless persevere until you prove to yourself that it ain't going to work.
